Objectives: The growing prevalence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) raises a need for effective diagnosis and select instruments. Recognizing that several assessment tools that are currently in use have limitations for the clinical field, this study aims to develop a mini scale of simple availability and assess its usefulness.
Methods: The study applied Theraplay to 20 children diagnosed with ASD by a neuropsychiatry specialist, rated them with the Korean Version of Social Communication Questionnaire (K-SCQ) and the MINI scale based on clinical information obtained before and after therapy, and examined correlations between their two scores.
Results: Following a factor analysis for MINI scale results, the study checked the correlations between its three subitems and the subscores of K-SCQ according to the factor analysis results. There were significant correlations between the subscales of MINI and those of K-SCQ except for restricted/repeated behavior (p<0.05).
Conclusion: The application of the MINI scale proposed in this study can be considered for use in the clinical field based on an additional evaluation of its reliability and validity.
